There are very good reasons for the Electoral College, and why it is important to keep it in effect. Rather than my explaining it, watch this video which explains it very clearly. Just keep in mind that when you vote for President on your ballot, you aren’t voting for the President. You are voting for electors in your state who will vote for the President.
Watch, and learn.
Also, since it would take a Constitutional Amendment to change it, there is a movement, called the National Popular Vote, in which the backers of that proposal are trying to get around the Constitutional Amendment by having each state enter into a contract to award the electoral votes in that state to the winner of the popular vote. Watch this video to learn more about that, and why it is a really bad idea.
